More about Rebecca Newson:
Rebecca (Becky) entered the world of music through concert band, playing clarinet, beginning in middle school and through her time at Ricks college. Recent years have put music back into focus in her life, through her calling as Ward Music Chairman, and Choir director. She has also participated in ward and stake choirs over the years, as well as singing in the choir for the California Bay Area production of Lamb of God, composed by Rob Gardner. She has always found great peace and comfort through the words and songs of the Gospel. Becky is the mother of 5 children, and in her free time enjoys creating in many different forms - art, crafts, music, poetry, sewing, digital design, baking, and scrapbooking... just to name a few.
Song background:

After I pondered a spiritual topic for a while, I felt the need to write my ideas down as a poem. It expresses the way that I am convinced (that I KNOW) that God is always anxiously calling for us to come to Him, eager to lift us and help us however we need it most. It doesn't matter where we are, or what we've done, or how we feel - He loves us unconditionally, and is so eager to bless us if we only lean on Him and trust Him. The instant we open our heart to Him, He is *THERE*! No questions asked. Just thrilled that we have made Him part of our lives, and ready to help us on our way to return to Him, and pour His spirit out upon us. We are the only thing standing in the way of God's presence in our lives. Let us be humble enough to invite Him in.

***
After writing the lyrics, I asked a friend in my ward to compose some music for it.
She accepted the challenge, but needed some time before she could work on it. Like most things in my life, my brain wouldn't shut off once it got started. So when I got an idea for a melody (just the first two lines!) before she even had a chance to get started, she encouraged me to keep working at it.  I was quite reluctant at first, being a complete amateur and not having any true music theory knowledge, and never previously composing any music.  But with her encouragement, I got to work.  After a lot of effort and struggle and consulting this same friend for suggestions and fine-tuning, I am very excited to have what feels like a polished final product, completely my own work.

I hope you love it.  I hope it blesses your life.

Lyrics: 1. Oh, child beloved, so dear unto me,
How earnestly ever I reach out for thee!
Oh, how canst thou weep? I am here by thy side!
Dear child, let not thy weary face from me hide.
Though storms rage around thee, and winds beat thee down,
Oh open thy heart that my love may abound.

Chorus:
Oh, child, precious child, with thee ever I plead!
Reach thou to thy God in the hour of thy need.

2. I seek thee, beseeching, oh come unto me!
Heed not the deceiver, who disheartens thee.
Oh, lift up thine eyes and release thy lament;
Child, patience! For soon shall veils of darkness be rent.
Yet now, in thy trials, trust thou and fear not;
With fervence thy welfare I ever have sought.

chorus

3. Take my pow'r to lift thee wherever thou art;
Receive my relief, oh belov'd of my heart!
Child, lean thou on me. Murmur not, nor rebel;
My wisdom, stretched forth, maketh all to be well.
My peace shall attend thee. I'll carry thee nigh
Upon wings of mercy toward refuge on High.

chorus
