More about Steve Danielson:
I am a life-long member of the church. I served a mission in the Czech Slovak Mission. I graduated from BYU with a BA in voice in 2002 and from the University of Memphis with a MM in Choral Conducting in 2005. Currently, I am pursuing a DMA in Choral Conducting at the University of Washington. I started composing shortly after my mission. I wrote for my ward and stake choirs. For 11 years, I was a high school choir director and wrote extensively for those ensembles. My other works can be found at my website.
Song background:

My friend and Stake Patriarch, Roger Prengel, is somewhat of a poet. He and I collaborated on another piece already, A New Carol for Christmas, which you can find on this site or on my website. He brought this poem to me a month ago or so to see if I might be able to set it to music. I sat on it for a while as I got to know the text. Finally, I decided that it needed to be a hymn. I may perhaps go back to do a choral arrangement, but in the meantime, anyone else is welcome to do so.

Lyrics: In awe we stand, in honor we praise, In love and joy our voices raise To celebrate the Savior's birth, A God who chose to come to earth.

Lower than angels, higher than man, Fulfilling Heav'nly Fa-ther's plan Schooled from above in grace-to grace He grew in the world to make His place.

He felt our sorrow; He felt our pain, In all points tried yet without stain, He came with love to conquer sin, A battle to lose, a world to win.

He suffered death, in a tomb was laid The ransom for our souls now paid But 'twas the better part he chose For sinners he died; for sinners he rose.
