In My Home

Duet

Words and music by Craig Petrie

The song attempts to capture the idea that heaven, when we make it there, should be no suprise to us, for we will continue to do build the kingdom as we do now, more specifically as we do now in our homes.  This song is available in two versions:  one for normal voices (ranges C-E (low-high) top part, Bflat-C bottom part) and one for alto (range F-A) and tenor (range Eflat-F).

In my home,
Have I worked away,
Passing through each day,
Just in the moment living,
Tomorrow no thought giving? In my home,
I've a new endeavor,
One to last forever:
Building where I want to be
Now and eternally.

CHORUS
Can you see Heaven?
How will it be?
Won't it seem familiar
If home is now so heav'nly?
I can see heaven!
Heaven I know,
For I've begun building it
In my home.

In my home,
Building sturdy walls,
Shaping sacred halls,
For quiet contemplation
And shielding from temptation.

In my home,
Casting out or curing
What is not enduring.
Building where I long to stay
Longer than just today.

CHORUS:
Can you see heaven?
How will it be?
Won't it be with loved ones,
and won't we be a family?
I can see heaven!
Heaven I know,
For I've begun building it
In my home.

My home can be a heaven on earth.
Yet more, home can show to me heaven's great worth.

CHORUS:
Can you see heaven?
How will it be?
Won't I go on building
My home in heaven's glory?
I can see heaven!
Heaven I know,
For I've begun building it
In my home.
