Am I Ready?

Vocal Solo

Words and music by Craig Petrie

In September our bishop introduced a theme for our ward entitled "Ready for Heaven in 2007."  We were all challenged to do whatever is necessary so we are prepared to meet the Savior at the beginning of the new year.  After thinking a lot about this challenge, I wrote a song about it.  Thanks to Bishop Free for the inspiration for this song.

Verse 1:
Dear Lord, have I left anything undone
Before the daylight ends with the setting sun?
Do I still wear the stain of some foolish deed?
For any that remains, wilt thou make me clean?

Dear Lord, have I left anything undone?
(—) Have I fed thy sheep; have I found the one—
That precious soul astray placed within my sight?
What can I do or say now to share thy light?
Oh strengthen me I pray so my lamp burns bright!
Am I ready?

Chorus:
Am I ready? Am I worthy?
Can I stand pure and holy before thee?
Am I striving as I should be?
Oh, dear Lord wilt thou show me
What more I can do
To be ready, to be worthy—help me be ready.

Verse 2:

Dear Lord, have I left anything undone

Before I can return with the vict’ry won?

Have wounding words been spoken to a foe or friend?

Have tender hearts been broken which are mine to mend?

Dear Lord, have I left anything undone?

What work lies incomplete or has not begun?

Have I received a call I did not fulfill?

What purpose great or small must I strive for still?

Oh, have I giv’n my all, have I done thy will?

Am I ready?

Chorus:

Am I ready? Am I worthy?
Can I stand pure and holy before thee?
Am I striving as I should be?
Oh, dear Lord wilt thou show me
What more I can do
To be ready, to be worthy—help me be ready.
