Angels We Have Heard on High

A 2016 arrangement of Angels We Have Heard on High for SATB choir, violin, cello and piano.  I make much use of musical echoes in this arrangement, which departs from the most common tune’s chorus but keeps the melody of the verse.  The arrangement is a bit somber, but provides for enough of a departure from the typical rendition so as to provide some variety.

Lyrics:

Come adore, on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Chorus: Gloria in excelsis Deo. (x2)

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song?

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Come adore, on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

Gloria! Gloria! Gloria!
